Wicked Tenant

In the end of the parable, the chief priests and the Pharisees realize that Jesus is criticizing them. The metaphor that Jesus is using is that the chief priests and the Pharisees are the builders of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, the stone that they rejected as worthless are the peasants and those who were viewed lowly in Jewish society. Jesus says that these people are actually the cornerstone to this whole thing, or the most important aspect. The Kingdom of God will be taken from those who do not produce good things and given to those who do. Jesus wants the peasants and those who were low on the Jewish social ladder to be the ones to take the place of those who are not meeting expectations. They are the most important part of God’s plan. They are the ones who can make the revolt work. Even the Pharisees and chief priests are afraid to arrest Jesus after hearing this because they feared the crowds of people who followed him.
